This digital illustration was made by artist Verónica Silva, to remind of the importance of rest.
With nature settling down for autumn, we're all reminded of the importance of resting, recovering and getting ready to bloom again in the spring.
It's something animals know intuitively and respect - it's important to preserve energy in order to live longer. We humans are animals too, but we've forgotten this important lesson and believe the best way forward is to always be on the move, awake, doing something to feel like we're productive. Or "resting" while watching tv, on our phones, or speaking to someone. Meaning, not resting fully as we should, from time to time.
Darwin worked around 4 hours per day and wrote 19 books. Benjamin Franklin worked 6 hours a day and helped found the United States of America. Sure, they had help and money, but they were also disciplined and took rest seriously, knowing it was an important part of the path forward. No one can be truly productive without rest.
So yes, slowing down may sound counter-intuitive, but really is the smartest decision we can all make in this chaotic world. Specially because it also helps us to be kinder, more empathetic and really enjoy life. :)
