This digital illustration made by artist Verónica Silva is an interpretation of the pagan celebration of Litha, or Midsummer.
Ever heard of it?
I guess Shakespear did, since he included fairies in his play "A Midsummer Night's Dream".
This celebration happens somewhere between June 19th to 23rd, and it is said that it's when fairies get out of their realm to visit ours.
It basically marks the passage from the light half of the year, when the sun/male god is at its full strength, to the dark half, when the moon/female god is pregnant with the harvest.
In many pagan cultures, this was celebrated with some kind of fire ceremony, and included other sun symbols like sunflowers and roses.
It was also deemed by some as a perfect time for divination (hence making this illustration as if it was a tarot card).
