Scarecrow Jack (Digital download)

This illustration was made by artist Verónica Silva, for the Halloween.  A nice Jack-o-lantern Scarecrow to light up the scariest night of the year, and ward off evil spirits.

Stingy Jack was a man so treacherous, that he trick the devil multiple times. After he died, neither heaven or hell wanted to take him, so he was condemned to roam the earth for eternity. The only thing he got was a burning ember to light up his path. So he carved a turnip into a lantern to keep the ember safe.

Or so the Irish folklore says. Each year, the Irish people would carve turnips and other roots into lanterns, to ward off evil spirits.

Later, when the immigrants reach America, they saw that pumpkins were more readilly available, and started carving them instead. Thus keeping the tradition to our days. 🎃
